1967 Pontiac GTO The Pontiac GTO is a legendary American muscle car that was produced by Pontiac from 1964 to 1974 and then revived from 2004 to 2006. It is widely regarded as one of the first true muscle cars and played a significant role in igniting the muscle car craze of the 1960s and 1970s.

Introduced in 1964, the original GTO was based on the Pontiac Tempest and featured a powerful 389 cubic-inch V8 engine as standard, with various high-performance V8 options available. Its combination of performance, aggressive styling, and affordability made it a hit with car enthusiasts and the youth market.

The GTO was marketed as a mid-size car with a muscle car heart, earning the nickname "The Goat." It became synonymous with tire-smoking acceleration and street dominance, setting the standard for future muscle cars.

The GTO underwent various design changes and engine upgrades during its first generation, solidifying its reputation as a formidable performer on the street and the dragstrip.

After a successful first run, the GTO was discontinued in 1974 due to changing market demands and stricter emissions regulations. However, the GTO nameplate was revived in 2004 for a modern iteration.

The 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO featured a retro-inspired design and a powerful 5.7-liter or 6.0-liter V8 engine, offering performance reminiscent of its iconic predecessor.

Both generations of the GTO left a lasting impact on American automotive history, earning a special place in the hearts of muscle car enthusiasts and collectors. Today, the Pontiac GTO remains an iconic symbol of the golden age of American muscle cars and continues to be celebrated for its raw power and timeless appeal.
