Description:

Named to coincide with the space race of the early 1960s, Mercury's compact Comet was a sporty little car and could be seen in in the driveways of thousands of homes in the mid '60s. What isn't seen very often, however, is the high-performance "Cyclone" variant. This rare option was introduced for the 1964 model year, and coincidentally, that's what we have right here! This 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone "K-Code" is the real deal, a rare sight indeed with only 59k actual miles on the odometer and a correct powertrain to back it up. That low-milage is owed to the previous owner, who parked it in a sealed storage unit and didn't drive it for over 19 years! Popping open the hood reveals the correct "K-Code" 289 C.I. V8 powering this little beast of a car, breathing fire through a 4-barrel carburetor that allows this mean Cyclone to really growl. Torque is put to the pavement through a correct quick-shifting "Toploader" 4-speed manual transmission, allowing for impressive throttle response and plenty of smiles behind the wheel. The wheels are spun through a Cyclone-specific 3.50:1 rear axle, which allows for proper power transfer. The exterior's laser-straight, space-age bodylines and functional fiberglass Ram-Air hood are covered in a stunning shade of "Rangoon Red" paint, which has been buffed to a brilliant shine in the sun. That paint has only been repainted once, and it still looks fantastic! The exterior's chrome brightwork is in great shape too, which is good news because there's a lot of it! Unique "CYCLONE" badging is displayed proudly on the front quarterpanels, accompanied by little racing flags to let the average viewer know there's something more to this Comet than meets the eye. The undercarriage is also very solid, with strong floors, frame rails, trunk, and door jambs. Opening the doors and stepping inside reveals a show-stopping original white vinyl interior, complete with plush patterned bucket seats and a full center console. Seriously, the interior of this '64 Cyclone is absolutely gorgeous! The factory gauges still sit in the dashboard, contrasting red & black trim clashes with the white seats perfectly, and getting behind the wheel feels like being transported right back to 1964, when the car was new. That's how nice it is! Other options on this rare '64 Cyclone include power steering, factory gauges, an original AM pushbutton radio, a rare original "ROTUNDA" dash-mounted tachometer, rare factory chrome "bow" headliner trim, a remote chrome mirror, a jack & spare tire, a full center console, a fiberglass functional dual-scoop Ram-Air hood, a woodgrain steering wheel, vent windows, and a mean-sounding dual exhaust system. The car rides on a factory-specific set of 14" wheels wrapped with blackwall tires for a factory-fresh appearance that looks as if this Cyclone drove right out of 1964! In its day, these Cyclones were popular for drag racing, and it shows. This little Cyclone runs and drives down the road wonderfully and boy, is it fast. This is your chance to own an extremely rare and stunning piece of muscle car history, being Mercury's first entry into the muscle car market. You're definitely not going to see another quite like it, especially with the shape this one is in, so don't let it pass you by! This '64 Cyclone is just a call away from being in your garage.
