1960 Chevrolet BelAir
The BelAir name has a special place in automotive history and had 7 generations of styles spanning from 1950-1975, 8 generations if you count Canadian produced cars which kept the BelAir name going all the way until 1981. These are great cars and the 4th generation was only produced in 1959 and 1960. This generation had a complete redesign with wide horizontal rear fins, a longer wheel base and a much less boxy look than the previous years. This look would set the tone for the new look of the 60s. This 1960 4 door BelAir is a very neat car because it is a true survivor. It was originally sold out of Independence, Missouri and based on some of the decals on the car remained there until at least 1978. It has been kept all original except for a few minor things. The Red paint is all original as is all of the body panels, etc. The owner has purposely left it just the way it is due to it being a survivor. He has owned the car for 8 years and when purchased was told that the 35,000 miles were original. The chrome and stainless all looks good. This year had the dual taillights and dual headlights up front which are all working properly. The car rides on a set of Red wheels with original hubcaps which are wrapped with wide white wall tires.
Getting those wheels rolling is its original date correct 6 cylinder motor. It utilizes a new carburetor, new water pump, new gas tank, and new radiator to keep it running cool. In 2005 the car had a full tune up with new plug wires, new exhaust, new plug wires, new rotor, new condenser, new brake hoses, new heater hoses, rebuilt wiper motor, 4 new shocks, and new wheel cylinders. Everything works on the car. Combined with the motor is a 3 speed manual transmission that shifts well. The transmission and rear end has also been fully serviced. It drives down the road well and doesn't smoke.
The interior is where you will find some of the changes from original. The seats have been recovered in Gray cloth upholstery which is in good shape. The headliner and carpet were replaced in 2005. The dash is all original and painted Gray. It is in good condition and topped with all of its original trim, gauges, and radio. All of it works including the radio which is pretty cool to see. It has its original steering wheel and utilizes a column shifter. The trunk has all the storage space you could ever ask for and the Black felt was redone in 05. The pan is solid as is all of the floors. The trunk houses a matching spare and the original jack set up.
This is a really nice driving survivor and in addition to the car it comes with original manuals, books and a binder with some receipts and even some 1960 BelAir advertising with the tagline "If you can't be happy with this car, you just can't be happy."
