We acquired the car from a longtime Porsche collector in New Jersey who owned it for more than ten years. Prior to his ownership, the car underwent a restoration, and during his stewardship it received significant mechanical attention to keep it performing properly. The 1971 model year represents the final and most developed version of the long-hood 2.2-liter 911S. Production was limited to just 788 911S Targas, making it one of the rarer early 911 variants. Power comes from a period-correct 1971 911S 2.2-liter flat-six equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and paired with its original 5-speed transmission. Documentation shows the engine received a comprehensive top-end rebuild by Thoroughbred Motorsports in Pennsylvania, including a rebuild of the fuel injection system and a reseal of the engine. Mechanically, the car runs and drives well. The transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, while the clutch, steering, suspension, and braking systems perform as they should. The car has seen limited use over the last two years and would likely benefit from fresh fuel and a routine tune-up before regular driving.
