This is a beautiful 24,000-mile three owner 1951 Studebaker Champion Regal Convertible that needs nothing to be enjoyed. Whether for use as a classic driver or for local and regional shows, this is a wonderful example in every respect.
This 1951 Studebaker Champion convertible is said to have spent three decades in storage before returning to the road in 1983. It is finished in red over red vinyl upholstery and powered by a 170ci inline-six mated to a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Additional features include a hydraulically operated convertible soft top, 15 wheels, bright hubcaps, bench seats, and a single Carter carburetor. The car was acquired by the seller in 2017, and subsequent work included relining the brake shoes, cleaning the fuel tank, and rebuilding the front seat bottom cushion as well as replacing the wiring harness, brake master cylinder, radiator, fuel bowl, soft fuel lines, shocks, wheel cylinders, and tires. This 10G-S2 Champion convertible is now offered on dealer consignment with service records and an Arizona title.
Studebaker manufactured 4,742 six-cylinder Champion convertibles for 1951. This one is said to have been repainted in red under previous ownership and features a hydraulically operated black convertible soft top paired with a black top boot as well as a bullet-nose front end, a hood ornament, dual side mirrors, rear-fender stone guards, and chrome bumpers with corner guards.
According to the documentation complete with this Champion, this was used by its original owner for nine months before being stored until 1983, when it was sold to his best friend. Mostly original with one high quality repaint, new black canvas convertible power top and recently rewired, this is a blend of low mileage original and restored as needed to be a gorgeous example.
Red vinyl upholstery covers the front and rear bench seats, which are complemented by a color-coordinated dash, door panels, and carpets. Additional features include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a lockable glove compartment, and door-panel storage pockets. The front seat bottom cushion was rebuilt and fitted with replacement foam in 2017. The AM radio does not function properly.
This features the venerable 170 CID inline six-cylinder engine connected to a three-speed overdrive manual transmission. Mechanically, this is in very nice condition in every respect.
The 170ci inline-six was factory rated at 85 horsepower. A replacement radiator was installed in April 2017, and the Carter carburetor was rebuilt in February 2019. Work in 2020 included cleaning the fuel tank as well as replacing the fuel bowl, fuel bowl gasket, and soft fuel lines. An oil change was most recently performed in March 2023, at which time the coolant was flushed and the thermostat was replaced. The wiring harness was subsequently replaced in August 2023.
The 15 wheels have bright hubcaps and are wrapped with 205/75 Coker whitewall tires that were mounted in 2020.The shocks were replaced in 2017, and work in 2019 included relining the brake shoes and replacing the wheel cylinders. A replacement brake master cylinder was installed in 2023.
