Look up Ralph Nader and his book ""Unsafe at any Speed"" if you have any questions, also the tale of this car being un-safe was debunked in 1972 by Texas A and M University which found that the Corvair possessed no greater potential for loss of control in extreme situations than any other compact cars of the time. Now, the reason for the rear engine air cooled design by GM is because of VW's absolute explosion into the automotive world with its what is now known as a much more superior design and build quality......and maybe marketing? Whatever the circumstances were there were 1.8 Million units sold in two different generations from 1960 through 1969, the second generation from 1965 until the end. This particular really nice restored unit was purchased as a anniversary gift around 2001 and restored in 2003. It needed it as the car came from the east coast with some pretty good rot. This has all been taken care of with receipts and pictures as well as all other mechanical, service and maintenance receipts from 2003 until now. It has not been driven in inclement weather since restoration and only used as a cottage car in the summer with excellent storage for the rest of the year. The paint, top and interior are very good, the underside is nice as is the frunk. Mechanically this Corvair seems very nice as it starts, idles and goes down the road very good. There is not much to these so the lights and gauges do work and there is a newer stereo with a CD changer. This is a really fun cruiser. Please let us know if you have any questions.
