The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is an absolute monster of a pony car. It represents the pinnacle of the refined S197 II generation. The 2012 model year was highly significant because Ford ditched the heavy cast-iron engine block in favor of a much lighter all-aluminum block, shaving roughly 120 lbs off the front end and massively improving the car's handling balance. The hand-built 5.4L aluminum engine is essentially a wet-sump version of the legendary V8 found in the 2005–2006 Ford GT supercar. It features massive 14-inch Brembo front rotors and 4-piston calipers to bring all that power to a stop. The beast sits right at the end of an era, utilizing a 3-link solid rear axle. While purists love it for drag racing, it gives the car an old-school, lively personality over bumpy pavement. Optional Recaro sport seats with accent stripes, which provides excellent lateral support compared to the flatter standard leather chairs.
