The Quest for 10s is Still on for the Roadkill Mazdaratti

The Mazdaratti is one of the most eclectic cars in the Roadkill fleet of perfect garbage. Its a 1974 Mazda REPU pick-up truck that Finnegan instantly fell in love with. The fact that it was powered by a 455 Oldsmobile with a Toronado transaxle in the bed instead of the little rotary that it originally came with made even cooler. The truck was purchased a few years ago from a guy who swore it did wheelies and ran 10s. Because Roadkill , it doesnt do either of those things, and even after throwing nearly $4,000 worth of speed parts at it in episode 51, the best it could do was 11.30-seconds in the quarter-mile. Freiburger and Finnegan are back at the HOT ROD headquarters in El Segundo to once again take a stab at getting the Mazdaratti into the 10s. This time, the truck looks like it got a new paint job, and grill, but thanks to shop manager Calin, who buffed and polished the original paint and repainted the grille. Seeking more power, guys added a bigger cam and improved valvetrain from Comp Cams to the Edelbrock heads they installed in 2016. They also installed a new/used Offenhauser intake, two four-barrell carburetors and even more nitrous. One of the concerns is the inherently terrible oiling system of those engines, and because they dont want to completely grenade it on the first pass, there was talk of trying to make an external oil drain that sits higher up on the heads to keep the valvetrain lubricated. We have no idea whats going to happen, but from what we can see, its going to be mayhem. Keep an eye out for the new episode on the Motor Trend app and website!
