Refreshed 2020 Genesis G90 Flaunts Polarizing Exterior in L.A.

The refreshed 2020 Genesis G90 officially made its U.S. debut at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, a few months after its Korean-market premiere. Now sporting the latest G-Matrixdesign language, the full-size luxury sedan from Korea wears a new iteration of Genesis grille flanked by headlights inspired by light reflecting from diamonds. The standard 19-inch alloy wheels have the same sparkle effect as the grille and headlights, along with new sound absorption technology to help quell tire noise. The new look gives the G90 some presence, but it's polarizing to say the least. In the powertrain department, the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque returns as the base engine or you can opt for a 5.0-liter V-8 with 420 hp and 383 lb-ft. Both engines come paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations. Adaptive dampers come standard on the 2020 G90 . The 2020 Genesis G90 will be the first Genesis vehicle to feature over-the-air updates for maps and software while its standard 12.3-inch display is now a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Active noise cancellation has also been added to further improve NVH. A full suite of driver assistance features comes standard on the 2020 Genesis G90 and has been expanded with lane centering, rear automatic emergency braking, cyclist detection, and safe exit assist. When it goes on sale in December, the 2020 Genesis G90 will be offered in two grades: 3.3T Premium and 5.0 Ultimate. It will also come with 3 years/36,000 miles complimentary scheduled maintenance and Service Valet where the dealer picks up your vehicle for service and provides you with a loaner while work is being performed. The Genesis G90, formerly known as the Hyundai Equus, has never been a hot seller in the U.S., with fewer than 1,900 examples sold so far in 2019. Will this dramatic makeover help it stand out in the crowd of flagship luxury sedans and strengthen its appeal? Time will tell.
