Faster with Finnegan, Mid-Season Finale: Mud Drag Racing a Second-Gen Camaro vs. a Lifted Toyota Truck

Want to go fast? Want to do it cheap? On Faster with Finnegan, Mike Finnegan and his friends will show you the secrets behind making Roadkill-esque heaps into truly raceable junk! Subscribe to the MotorTrend App for $2 per month to start binge-watching today ! Finnegan and company are back at West Georgia Mud Park for a sloppy, bumpy, 400-foot drag race! This episodes weapon of choice is a second-gen Camaro (of unknown vintage) set up for dirt-track racing powered by a small-block backed up by a Turbo 350 transmission, extra-wide dirt racing tires, and a chicken-wire reinforced windshield. The challenger is also an experienced drag racer, John Andrade Jr. , from Street Outlaws , but he didnt bring his turbocharged LSX-powered 1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass to this racehes got a lifted Toyota truck on mud boggers, also powered by a small-block. Both drivers claim little experience in the mud and both vehicles appear to be well set up for the race, so this is gonna be a close one! As is expected, when the team tears into prepping the Camaro, they must name it first. They christen the mud-racing machine Joe Dirte and now work can begin. Joe is going to need a lot more power and traction to triumph over Andrade and Cheesy Poof. Oh yeah, Finnegan named the orange Toyota truck, toohes got a knack for that. Youd think the wide dirt-track racing tires that the Camaro came with would do well in the mud, but youd be wrong. The wide front tries cant dig in and hydroplane on the sloppier parts of the track and the rears dont have the tread needed to paddle through that slick, Georgia clay. The fronts are replaced with some standard street radialsless than half as wide as the racing tires theyre replacing and with deeper treadthat will cut into the mud and give Finnegan some control on the slippery surface. The rears get swapped for a pair of knobby mud boggers that just fit under the rear sheet metal with no cutting necessary. Score! The easiest way to add power is running a nitrous kit , and team Finnegan decides to plumb in a 300-shot to get the edge on Andrade and the Toyota. Between that and the new mud boggers out back, Joe Dirte should be a 600hp dirty-wheelieing machine! But theres a lot that goes into properly setting up a nitrous system. As David Newbern will tell you, if you dont properly ground the solenoids, you can spectacularly destroy your engine. He learned that the hard way on HOT ROD Drag Week two years ago when he melted the carb and broke all eight pistons in his 1971 Nova. Same goes for not dialing in the nitrous fuel pressure regulator as well, going too lean can cause catastrophic failure. All that power is no good if the distributor gets wet or the intake sucks in a bunch of mud and water, so the build is finished with some specially fitted aluminum sheets to protect those vital parts. Dont forget the MasterCraft suspension seat to keep Mike form breaking his back! Stick around to the end on this one, weve got a bonus race! Newbern hops in the Camaro and Mike Cotten pilots the Toyota in his Faster with Finnegan racing debut! Which vehicle will come out on top? Will the road killer bury the street outlaw? Will Cotten have to do the worm in the mud?! Stop asking questions and watch on the MotorTrend App!
